The Golf Swing
Oh, the golf swing!! Is there a perfect golf swing, and will the perfect golf swing make you play better golf?? This has been debated since golf began and continues to today. My take is that the number one way to shoot lower scores, is to have a consistent swing, whatever swing you have!! Some players have a swing that produces a fade or slice, and other have one that produces a hook or draw. It is debatable which is better, but the fact is only that one is different from the other, causing a different spin on the ball. Whether you can produce the swing causing a fade or draw is the important factor in lowering your score. The photos above depict a stance, posture and mechanics that produce a straight shot with optimum power. Photo (1) shows the address and the hands at address. Photo (2) shows the top of the backswing and the position of the hands. Phot (3) shows the point of impact on the downswing and the position of the hands, which should be just the same as at address. Photo (4) shows the follow through and the position of the hands at the follow through. The main ingredients in the golf swing, are (1) the address, (2) takeaway or backswing, (3) downswing, and (4) follow through. You need to find your own speed and swing tempo, as each of us has our own, which is right for us, so long as it is not severely exaggerated either in how slow or fast it is. It is important however, that your backswing and downswing are at the same speed and tempo!!
